Although they suffer from the same prejudices that the other little people do, gnomes seldom seek to harm the tall folk and are generally pleasant, friendly people. They are also known to have unique magic that only they can work, including the ability to spin straw into gold. Similarly, items crafted by gnomes tend to be of unique quality, gnomes can weave magically strong rope or boots that will not slip, even on the Glass Mountains. Gnomes are also capable of living centuries longer than nearly any other race and age very slowly. A Gnome of six hundred years old may appear to be only sixty, and the full extent of a gnomish lifespan is unknown.
Most gnomes live underground, but none more so than the Underground Gnomes that live in the tunnels of the Underground Realm of the Gnomes. Gnomes are believed to guard the precious gems and metals of the earth. When not living underground, gnomes build small huts or carve out hollow in trees to dwell within.
