Gate Captain Ergus is one of the captains of the Neverwinter Guard. During the Wailing Death, he was in charge of the quarantine of Beggar's Nest. He was also highly suspicious of Desther Indelayne and his Helmites. When the zombie infestation began, he pulled his men back to the barricade after losing a few too many of them -- particularly a promising guard named Walters.
When the Hero of Neverwinter arrived, Gate Captain Ergus urged the Hero to look for Walters -- if the adventurer was going to stick his neck out anyways. When the Hero not only rescued Walters but also ended the zombie infestation, Ergus was very pleased. He was not, however, happy that a Yuan-Ti had been loosed in the city and was furious with the leadership of Neverwinter for allowing such a terrible thing to occur.
