Water Faceless One - Abyssal Maw

An aquatic Faceless One

Faceless Ones, like the related Forgotten Ones and Unbroken, are powerful creatures known to serve the will of the Old Gods. They are known to be ancient, older perhaps than even the Aqir and the Trolls. Some believe that the Faceless Ones were transformed from forgotten mortal races at the Dawning of Azeroth, and that the Curse of the Flesh was intended to create more Faceless Ones. They speak a language known as Faceless, a language which no other race of Azeroth speaks. Faceless Ones also have some telepathic abilities.

In ages past, the Faceless Ones were buried in the dark recesses of the earth -- much like the Old Gods were when imprisoned by the Titans. Despite the time that has passed, the Faceless Ones still serve their Old God masters.

The Faceless Ones were discovered initially in Northrend, when the magic of Illidan Stormrage caused earthquakes which released them into the tunnels Arthas Menethil was fleeing into. The crypt lord Anub'arak had heard of the creatures but was startled to find they were real. Arthas and his undead forces managed to escape.

Some time afterwards, Theramore came under attack by a powerful Faceless One awakened by Cho'gall, but it was defeated by Med'an.

When the Champions of Azeroth traveled to Northrend, they faced Faceless Ones several times, and were able to confirm that they truly did serve the will of the Old Gods.

Faceless one
When the Shattering broke Azeroth apart, many more Faceless Ones awoke, particularly beneath the waves. Some have been able to shape change, and others have been able to corrupt those around them. They are led by the Faceless Generals.
