Ansel was a student of the clerical arts at the Neverwinter Academy. Although he was near to graduation at the time of the attack on the Academy, he had not quite reached that point yet. He attended the Academy hoping to bring an end to the Wailing Death through use of his healing magic and his faith. He believed that the plague was simply a trial sent by the gods, and he was outraged that people would turn to magic for a cure. He was especially disappointed in Aribeth de Tylmarande who, as he saw it, betrayed Tyr by turning to Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun for a cure. He was killed in the attack on the Academy.
